Friday morning we went to Downtown Carmel (the town where my aunt lives). It is a historic-type district with shops and restaurants along a landscaped street. This was the beginning of learning to push Grandaddy up and be pulled down hills by the wheelchair. Although he did get sick again earlier in the morning, he joined us for this day's outing.
Notice the statue on the bench with Nonda and Mitchell, an artist has created several similar to this along both sides of the street. There is a girl watering plants and a woman carrying groceries.
After picking Becky (my other aunt) up from the airport, we went to downtown Indianapolis for the Zoo. I am really just a big kid! One of the highlights was seeing koalas. We were lucky to see them awake, since they sleep 18-22 hours a day! Did you know they are the size of a jellybean when they are born?
Also, we saw some elephants. I have seen elephants many times before but there were a couple of babies in this group, which seemed to catch my interest. Obviously this picture is of an adult, but it was a better photograph.
The best part was getting to feed a giraffe! I did it twice! They were gentle and had very long tongues.
Our visit also included a shark petting tank, the butterfly garden, and botanical garden. Some people thought I had my expectations a little too high for the butterfly garden, but there were quite a few. They would land on people and fly around quite a bit.
This was my favorite picture of the day!
Later, we went to the Canal and Wholesale District downtown. We walked a bit of the canal, which was similar to the Riverwalk--without the entertainment/dining venues. We ate dinner at Houlihans.
