indy trip--day 3

I was thinking today that I must really be stretching it to blog about this vacation--I can't imagine that the contents are interesting to anyone other than my family, but I'm having fun writing them so I'll keep pretending.

Grandaddy got sick this morning shortly after he woke up. That was really disappointing since he had been looking so forward to coming up here and spending time with us. He went ahead and stayed at Nonda's house while we went out. Mitchell, Nonda, and I went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum. I had been there about 8 years ago when I came here to visit a special family, but it has changed quite a bit since then. One of Mitchell's favorite things was the water clock at the entrance. We didn't think to take a picture of it until we were on our way home. Possibly my favorite thing was a glass blowing exhibit.

The central point was an art structure that reached from the first floor to the skylight (of a 3 story building). It was composed of various colored blown glass attached to a pole. At the base of the structure was an arrangement of other pieces of blown glass across a clear tile ceiling. You could sit in reclining position to view the pieces as the seat turned creating a reverse kalidescope. Here is an image of one of the sections.

My other favorite exhibit was a mummy tomb. We smelled myrrh, learned interesting facts about the process, and Mitchell spelled his name with Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The animation room was Nonda's favorite. She made several cartoons using picture frames and we put together the faces to make a character appear to talk. We learned a lot more about dinosaurs and can now spot a carnivore/herbivore by looking at the eggs...just in case we come across one during an adventure.

Here are a few snapshots from the rest of our time at the museum.

Thankfully, Grandaddy was feeling much better when we got back home. After dinner we ended the day with a walk in the park near the Great White River.

The weather was perfect! It doesn't get dark here until almost 10:00 so there is plenty of daylight to enjoy, but it means bedtime kind of sneaks up on you.
