This weekend I took my first trip to Dublin....Texas. I am sure that on the way down my education was questioned because more than once I asked, "What animal is that?" I really have been out of the "city" at various times during my life---but it had been a while. On our way to the place known for a Dr. Pepper bottling plant (with sugar cane!) and Irish heritage (I've been told not to try to go through town on St. Patrick's day!), I saw the cuttest post office in Morgan Mill, Texas.
If I had been by myself, I would have stopped to take a picture. I have decided to make a collection of Texas scene photographs. I know its been done a zillion times and a friend of mine has a photo album on his myspace page titled "Only in Texas" (which I have to admit was part of my inspiration). The thing is that the perspective and experiences of my photos will be completely different from that of any other photographer, and that will make it unique.
Anyway, before I even arrived at my destination I had also seen the home of a famous bull rider--Tuff Hedeman. Now this was after the dumb questions regarding the animals, but can you believe I was not amused when questioned whether I knew who he was...I mean, I may not have been out of the "city" much---but I am a TEXAS girl!
Upon arriving in Dublin, it didn't take long to realize that it was filled with a different way of life.....much slower. The change of pace had its benefits. I was able to squeeze in a nap on Saturday and a little shut eye on Sunday!!! Yippee! Exactly what I needed!
While I was in town, I got to witness a large, stuffed snake framed on the wall and a real "Bash". The stars were out and a beautiful moon peaked through the clouds. I saw a few toys and where the boys play with them. There were fields of wild flowers and cactus down on the farm. This is where I got to do a little playing with my camera down with the critters. I learned how to clean a dirty chair with no water at all. :) Not least of all were the friendly people that I met and the company that I kept.
