san antonio

This weekend I had the opportunity to go to San Antonio. The main purpose of the trip was for the Texas Council for Social Studies Conference...yes, I know that makes me a nerd! I needed to gain some new knowledge to bring back to my campus--which had its highlights--and make a presentation myself. However, I was quite excited about the chance to breathe air in a different place for a few days.

It should have been a good indication of the type of trip that I was embarking on when I choose to go back out to the car for the forgotten iPod...after going through security at Dallas Love Field. Really, would it have been possible to travel on a plane and in a hotel room for several days without even the option of listening to music? I think not...it would most definitely have been devastating. The great thing about the whole thing is that I had my giggle box turned over for nearly all of the three days. This helped me to process most of the glitches in stride. Sometimes, hidden treasures can be found when things are not as they were planned.

I became a huge campaigner against false advertising this weekend! If a hotel is not even near the tourist area of the Riverwalk, the word "Riverwalk" should not be in the title in any form. This can be very misleading!! On the same note, if a hotel is more than three blocks and on the other side of the railroad tracks (all puns intended) from a tourist attraction, it too should not have that descriptor in the title! This creates unnecessary dilemas to be overcome.

Recommendation: When in San Antonio during the most beautiful days of the year, enjoy an Ultimate Margarita while listening to country music and looking down onto the riverwalk below. It is a great atmosphere for such an evening. :)

Warning: Do not underestimate any shuttle/taxi drivers. Even those who appear to have no personality can be awakened when allowed to get off their beaten path. It could allow you to hear the historical ghost stories of downtown.

All things you really need to know were learned in elementary school Number 538729-When boarding a bus, proceed to the back and fill in all seats from the back forward--three to each row. *This rule should also apply to Southwest Airlines flights.

rambling

I am feeling the urge to blog. However, I really don't have much to say. As I think about what's been on my mind lately I come up with a few things...

1) I am really excited about the changes around the corner in my small group. I think good things will continue from where great events have happened.

2) I'm actually starting to get a little excited about my little trip to Arkansas this weekend. I'm hoping to see some people I haven't seen in a while, but even more so the ones I haven't seen in an extra long while. The bummer...five hours in a car by myself. Ugh! No matter what though I must come home with new pictures! I'm about to explode to show off!

3) Missing someone really stinks! I'm not sure which is worse, when they are around the corner or gone forever?

4) October 8, 2007

5) I have a mini-vacation awaiting me soon.
