indy trip--day 1

Here we are...10:45 on Tuesday night and we have just settled-in to the hotel room. I had told several people that I was planning to blog each day of this trip, so here's my first opportunity---but this will be short. I am exhausted!

When we were calculating approximately how far we would drive each day of this trip, it somehow never occured to me that my driving time would be increased by two hours. It also didn't seem to motivate me to pack any earlier in the day yesterday when I knew that I would have a long day today. So after staying up too late and getting up too early, I was about halfway to Tyler when I realized that I had done this wrong. It would continue to catch up with me later.

Most of the day was just pretty typical road trip stuff. We took our time stopping at rest areas and not rushing through meals. Most of our day was spent crossing Arkansas.

We played the Alphabet game to help pass the time. Grandaddy spotted words for X,Y, and Z. I think that definitely qualified him as the champion. Go Grandaddy!!

Originally, we had hoped to get all the way to Blytheville, Arkansas--about half way to Indianapolis--the first day, but by late afternoon I knew that I would be desperate to stop in West Memphis. However, when we got to the area where we started looking for a place to stay we couldn't find anything. Apparently, we had just passed it all in the previous thirty miles. So, we had to continue on to the next town (another hour further). This put us in Blytheville, Arkansas...yep, when we arrived here, I had been in the car for 13 hours! Ahhh!

Oh! One great thing happened just a few minutes ago....my "old" favorite koozie was recovered! It was in my suitcase all along!!! Yea!!!
