A few weeks ago, I was sort of burdened for the leaders of our country. The pressure of the job, criticism and overall ungratefulness of the people, and the strain on their families had weighed heavy on my mind. So I finally decided after wrestling with the thoughts that it seemed kind of silly and would probably go unnoticed anyway...to send them a thank you note. Afterall, we live in a democracy and we are told to communicate with our leaders. I decided to send an email to the President, First Lady, and Vice-President. Each message was basically the same. It was only a few lines long and simply expressed my thankfulness that they have given of themselves and their families for the sake of our country.
I'm definitely just a big kid deep down, so when I checked my mail today it was very exciting to have a correspondence from the Vice-President of the United States of America!! Here is the response that I received...

I couldn't help but think it was interesting that the envelope said "Official Business" and had no stamp.
How cool! Everyone likes to get thank you notes...even the Vice President! hehehe
ReplyDeleteyou rock "ms. mackey"! :) what a wonderful thing you did! i'm so glad that you followed thru with what was on your heart... and look. you have a piece of history. that is so cool!
ReplyDeleteI wrote President Ford in 1975 asking if I could meet him during a family trip to Washington D.C. He wrote me back telling me that too many people request a meeting during their visit to our nation's capitol however, I could visit the White House (with the other long line of visitors) during my trip. I still have the letter signed by the President (ok, it was stamped)! RKP
